Gottried Benn – Driven to Music
19 FebNight Café
824: The Love and Life of Women.
The cello has a quick drink. The flute
belches throughout three beats: his tasty evening snack.
The drum reads on to the end of the thriller.
Green teeth, pimples on his face,
waves to conjunctivitis.
Grease in his hair
talks to open mouth with swollen tonsils,
faith hope and charity round his neck.
Young gointer is sweet on saddle-nose.
He stands her three half pints.
Sycosis buys carnations
to mollify double chin.
B flat minor: sonata op. 35.
A pair of eyes roars out:
Don’t splash the blood of Chopin round the place
for this lot to slouch about in!
Hey, Gigi! Stop!
The door dissolves: a woman.
Desert dried out. Canaanite brown.
Chaste. Full of caves. A scent comes with her. Hardly scent.
It’s only a sweet leaning forward of the air
against my brain.
A paunched obesity waddles after her.

Raghunath Manet Quartet & Odwalla @ Ankara Caz Fest
16 FebThe Raghunath Manet Quartet were incredible. Amazing trajectory of emotions and sounds, like a brilliant afrobeat raga with an Indian-flavored helping of James Brown.
Odwalla were also splendid! I especially adored the fellow in the purplish shadows pouring water and making other musical mischief as the two above dancers contorted, shook, and flexed to a chorus of african drumming and x-phones.
Blind Willie Mctell
11 Feb.
Oh my goodness, there you are again Blind Willie Mctell. Why is it that you always find me when I am in the most dire need of someone pure and primeval? There is no better bluesman I can think of. Your only competitor to my mind is Hank. You make me feel as if someone were once out there grasping for the stars and trapping moonlight in jars for all to be enlightened by.
Paul Bowles’ Jalaba
11 FebPaul Bowles understood the comforts of a Jalaba and the beauty of Morocco some time before I did. He was also a much better writer than I am. But what happened to his wife? She was also an incredible writer. Her stories and novel are like living dreams. Why did he never come back from Morocco? Actually, once you go then you will understand.
Julian Casablancas – 11th Dimension Again
11 FebJulian, I have now been to Casablanca and let me tell you something: your 11th dimension and all your alien parallels are more magical than ever. I feel like this song could literally transport all of mankind to a new and slightly more pleasent dimension beyond our stars. At least it does every time I listen to it.
