“Someone You Could Get to Know”
I guess centuries passed behind us
and all the litanies are true
follows before us as heaven lopes
behind a toothy hound
while winds do howl
the snowy roses and all that peaked
a perforation smiles back to sleep
though holes in this wilderness
too much the shallows
holler “dinner time!”
if only for an owl
did rode, did breed
the double-breasted horse did steed
and rolled up in your apple walnut bed
we’re here instead
someone you should’ve paused
gotten the chance to know.
