“The Heart of Our Nectarine”

“The Heart of our Nectarine”

Woods would do this?

Crumple the spirit in a tissue?

An issue leapt from trees in homes?

With ease in suits?

Flashes in card games?

While cleaning the souls of tigers?

While buttering the fortress?

Clean bandaids and lace?

Parted toenails, holy jeans?

A kiss from a snake?

The parted lips of a bobbing fish?

Drunk from underwear underwater?

Let’s make a memory today

to last the rest of our lives.

You and me.

Me and you.

The cider, the stove pipes, you,

knit scarecrow, faded damsel, you,

apricot, fig, persimmon, you,

forget me, acid, deluge, you:

drainpipe, steel pipe, haunted: you.
