“Back an’ Forth”
You travel back and forth through time,
but you’re not a time traveler—
you’re just the saddest individual
whoever lived, and it is a competition—
it’s cutthroat where parrots left
it’s eventual snowflake tears,
perfect bodies
someone to know you too closely
a harmed sweater, heartwarming gloves
we’ll ride the toboggan together again
it will be our secret in the slippers
we’ve already tended the garden
until your braids grew tender
we’ve upended the refrigerator
cold breeze, another bender,
another big emotional spender
sway with me in the hammock,
I’ve lost your locks,
your hair and otherwise
and it’s unspeakable
to commit the key.
